In response to the recent unseasonal rainfall, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Dhaka held a comprehensive meeting with civic engineers to strategise improvements to the city’s drainage system ahead of the monsoon season.

Key issues discussed included desilting of drains under the MCG’s jurisdiction, appointing nodal officers in each ward to address waterlogging, mapping drainage on both sides of vulnerable points and deploying supervisory staff at critical locations.

The Chief Engineer directed subordinates to carry out ward-wise desilting, repair faulty drainage connections and identify waterlogged zones. Responsibilities were also assigned to junior engineers in each ward to ensure effective rain-related civic management.

Vijay Dhaka emphasised that the next two to three months were crucial, instructing all engineers to work with full dedication. He also ordered the provision of adequate manpower, JCB machines, tractor-trolleys and pumping machines to strengthen the city’s drainage infrastructure.

He further instructed engineers to ensure regular cleaning of sump wells at pumping stations and maintain an adequate number of portable pumps. Additionally, he directed that all drainage and sewerage-related estimates be prepared and submitted within two days to begin the tender process promptly.

Engineers present also shared field experiences, pointed out current challenges and stressed the need for better coordination in desilting and addressing waterlogging.The meeting was attended by Executive Engineers Ajay Panghal, Manoj Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar, and Assistant Engineers Prem Singh, Anju Bala.
