The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram will take-up the initiative to make Gurugram University a zero-waste campus.
The Additional Commissioner of MCG, Dr Balpreet Singh, visited the university recently and looked at the possibilities of making it the first zero-waste university of Gurugram.
He said with the joint efforts of the university and the MCG, a vertical garden would be made from used plastic bottles. Along with this, a compost pit would also be constructed on the university campus.
Singh urged the Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Kumar to ensure that all colleges under GU’s jurisdiction also try to make their campuses zero-waste as soon as possible.
The V-C said the canteen would also be made polythene and plastic-free. He added that a two-member team of Professor Devina Pal and Dr Sandeep Kumar was constituted to achieve the feat and to ensure that steel plates were used instead of plastic disposable plates in the university canteen from the next week.
