The Maharshi Dayanand University(MDU) authorities have decided to organise a mega floral-literary-arts-culinary-cultural event 'Rang Mahotsav-2025' on March 19.

The extravagansa spread over 11 days comprises a floral festival 'Rang Bahar', creative visual arts show 'Rang Srijan', musical event 'Rang Sur', literary programme 'Rang Kalam', theatre fest 'Rang Raas', culinary event 'Rang Vyanjan' and cultural show 'Rang Tarang'.

The MDU teachers' as well as non-teaching employees' associations had opposed the organisation of the mega event, citing gross misuse and wastage of funds.

Following that, the event was deferred. However, the university authorities have now decided to go ahead with the programme despite the opposition by the teachers as well as the employees.

MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh said the 'Rang Mahotsav' was aimed at holistic personality development of the university students and provide them with multiple avenues of experiential learning.

“It will help them showcase their literary-cultural-musical-culinary as well as event management and organisational skills and also help in the university's branding as a centre of excellence in multiple spheres,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the associations of the MDU teachers as well as the non-teaching employees have again opposed the organising of such an extravagant event despite the state universities reeling under a massive debt-burden.

"The 22 state universities of Haryana are at present under a debt of nearly Rs 6,625 crore. Still, the MDU authorities are adamant on wasting a huge amount of money collected from students mercilessly. No other state university organises such extravagant events," said Dr Vikas Siwach, president, MDU Teachers' Association (MDUTA).

He asserted that the representatives of the MDUTA and the non-teaching employees' association would meet the Haryana Governor-cum-MDU Chancellor, the state Chief Minister and the top government officials to convey their concerns and seek a check on such gross misuse of public money.
