MDU Rohtak suspends 2 supervisors

Asked for menstruation proof, allege sanitation workers

In a written complaint lodged with the Registrar of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, women sanitation workers have alleged that two male supervisors asked them to show proof that they were on their period.

Confirming it, the MDU Director (Public Relations), Prof Ashish Dahiya, said the university administration had placed the sanitation supervisors under suspension, initiated an inquiry and also referred the matter to the police.

Meanwhile, taking cognisance of the matter, the Chairman of the Haryana State Commission for Safai Karamcharis, Krishan Kumar, and Mayor Ram Avtar Valmiki visited the campus this evening.

On Sunday, when the supervisors asked the sanitation workers to speed up the cleanliness work at the sports complex in view of the Governor's visit, some workers expressed their inability to work fast, stating that they were on their period.

Asked on whose directions they were doing so, one of the supervisors named an assistant registrar. The complainants have sought strict legal action against the supervisors as well as the assistant registrar.

The MDU Estate Director, Prof Bhagat Singh, said the university administration had taken prompt action on the complaint and also referred the matter to the police.
