A poverty-stricken family of labourers, who hail from Bihar, migrated to Ambala 3 years back. The head of the family works as a labourer and his wife works in five houses as a servant. The family is able to earn Rs12,000 at the end of the month. The girl child (10) left her school and comes to work, along with her mother. Her other two siblings, too, have to work to help contribute to the income of the family. My humble request to the government is to identify such families who are unable to send their children to schools and fund their education. In my city, an NGO was working to help such children in three different sectors, however, the education authorities asked them to stop working on such cases for reasons not known to me and other residents. NGOs have the power to put pressure on the government and stop this menace. The government should take some steps to help safeguard the future of such children, especially girl child. WOMEN employees being exploited
WHO said rape, sexual harassment are the only grave injustices meted out to women? In India, there is no end to the number of ways through which women are put through pain, distress and suffering, all for petty reasons. A Tamil Nadu-based company did a survey, according to which it was known that employers would ask the women to take some medicines so that they don’t have to undergo the pain during their menstrual period and can work efficiently sans any break. Likewise, in one of the regions of Maharashtra, women are asked to get rid of their ovaries so that they don’t take any leave, whatsoever, during the sugarcane harvesting period. For the same, they have to undergo surgeries, the amount for which is given on loan to them. What people don’t understand is that such uncalled for medicines and surgeries can have consequences. I hope people can rise above their petty selfish viewpoints. Ramesh Gupta, Narwana
CM’s RAIDS send A good message
IN view of rampant corruption, Chief Minister of Haryana conducted a surprise inspection in a tehsil of his Karnal. Following the raid, he suspended four officials- Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar, Registry Clerk and Patwari-thus, sending a good message to the public. Mutations in respect of sale deeds of many people as well as in respect of the land acquired by the state are pending in the tehsils for the last 25-30 year. However, after 12 years they have to get a court decree again. At the time of registry in tehsils, the entry of brokers should be completely banned and mutations of sale deeds should be sanctioned on the same day. The process of partitioning the land in the state is very long and complicated. People are forced to keep their lands in joint accounts and number of cases is further increasing. Shakti Singh, Karnal
NEWLY BEAUTIFIED PARK WEARS UGLY LOOK, REPAIR WORKS NEEDED
THE fabric work on main gate of Karan Park, near the bus stand, in Karnal was burnt several days back, but has not been repaired. The otherwise newly-beautified park wears an ugly look because of its gate. Karnal municipal corporation authorities should look into the matter and issue steps to restore the beauty of the park. The park is the one of the city’s oldest parks and is on the name of Raja Karan of Mahabharata. Karan Girdhar, Karnal
