Meditation room opened for patients on health varsity’s 18th foundation day
Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHS) celebrated its 18th foundation day on Monday.
The celebration commenced with a havan ceremony on the UHS campus. Following that, saplings were planted near the new gate of the university and a blood donation camp was organised by the PGIMS Blood Bank.
UHS Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr HK Agarwal, congratulated the faculty members, students and employees of the university.
Delhi-based cardiologist Dr Mohit Dayal Gupta delivered a motivational lecture on the occasion.
“Just as we clean our house daily, we should also clean our minds if we want to eliminate anger, jealousy, hatred, competition and irritation from our lives,” he observed.
He said to make our institute a positive and stress-free organisation, we should cooperate with everyone.
Dr Gupta exhorted the gathering to take out some time every day for yoga and meditation. “The biological age of nearly 25 per cent of the patients in the age group of 18-35 years who visited me in a month was found to be 60-95 years due to stress, which is a serious matter. Being aware of this, we have to take a pledge that we will keep ourselves stress-free,” he said, adding that we should work happily.
The Vice-Chancellor said the lecture delivered by Dr Gupta was inspiring and he hoped that it would have a positive impact on the lives of the audience.
The PGIMS Director, Dr SK Singhal, also said one could be happy if he/she eliminated stress or dealt with it effectively.
Medical Superintendent Dr Kundan Mittal said a meditation wing had also been established in Room Number 57 of the new OPD, where anyone could go during OPD hours to learn and practise meditation.
A book written for PG students by the doctors of the Community Medicine Department was also released on the occasion.
Blood Bank head Dr Gajendra Singh said 90 persons donated blood during the blood donation camp organised to mark the foundation day.
State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) Nodal Officer Dr Sukhbir Singh said an organ donation awareness help desk was set up at the OPD, where nearly 100 persons gained awareness about organ donation and 40 persons submitted forms for organ donation.
Transplant coordinator Deepti Kharab said several people evinced interest towards organ donation and decided to pledge the organs of themselves and their family members to do a noble deed for society.
The stage was conducted by Dr Varun Arora, in-charge of the Public Relations Department.
Institute of Mental Health Director-cum-CEO Dr Rajiv Gupta, Dean Academic Affairs Dr Dhruv Chaudhary, Dean Dr Kuldeep Lalar, Dean Student Welfare Dr MG Vashisht, PGIDS Principal Dr Sanjay Tewari and other faculty members were present.
