Severe waterlogging in Chhotu Ram Nagar and Vivekanand Nagar of Bahadurgarh town here has forced many residents — most of them migrant labourers — to leave their homes and seek shelter elsewhere.

Streets and homes remained submerged following a major breach in Mungeshwar Drain, which has flooded not only residential areas but also the adjacent industrial zone. Among the affected areas is the Maruti stockyard, where many parked vehicles have been submerged.

Though Army personnel, who were called in on Saturday, managed to plug the breach in the drain, it continues to overflow.

The district administration has set up 15 temporary shelters to accommodate displaced families. These have been equipped with essential facilities such as clean drinking water, bedding, food supplies, and medical support.

Bahadurgarh SDM Naseeb Kumar said the designated relief centres included community centres in sector 2, 6, and 9, as well as several of the town’s dharamshalas.

“People displaced by waterlogging are being accommodated in these shelters, where they are being provided with basic amenities and care,” said the SDM. Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Ravindra Patil said municipal council teams were working to relocate residents from severely affected zones, while the Health Department was taking proactive steps to prevent an outbreak of waterborne diseases. Anti-larval spraying is being carried out in waterlogged areas as a precautionary measure.

“Medical teams are conducting door-to-door visits in flood-affected localities, including Chhotu Ram Nagar and wards 9, 10, 11, and 18. Health check-ups and other essential medical services are being extended to residents. The Public Health Department is supplying clean drinking water through tankers,” the DC added.
