Social distancing went for a toss as hundreds of migrant labourers from various parts of the district reached the office of the HSVP (Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran) on Tuesday to register to go back home.

Around 500 workers submitted their application on Day 2. “I came to know the district administration has started registration, so I came here to complete the formalities to return to my village in Begusarai in Bihar,” said Raja Ram Singh, a labourer.

Jai Parkash, also a labourer, said he had been visiting the HSVP office for three days but nobody was helping them. “I want to go back to my village in Chitarkut, but I don’t know how to go about it.” Another labourer said most of them were running short of money and did not know when the lockdown would end. “I want to go meet my family,” he said.

Pradhikaran EO Anupama Sangwan said that registration process was open and around 1,050 labourers had been registered. Employees on duty have been asked to maintain social distancing, she said.
