Highlighting their condition owing to the “aggravating crisis” afflicting the dairy sector, milk producers and cattle farmers of various districts here today demanded the guarantee of minimum support price for milk by strengthening the cooperative sector.
At a meeting organised by the All-India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) in Jind town, the milk producers and cattle farmers said a guarantee for the support price would minimise the exploitation of both producers and consumers. They demanded the restart of cattle fairs, curb on stray cattle, better animal health facilities, easy credit and availability of grazing lands.
The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) leader Inderjit Singh said the cost of milk production was increasing, while milk prices were not increasing to compensate the rising inflation. As a result, the rural economy was facing a crisis, he said.
