Mining materials are being illegally transported from Rajasthan to Haryana, especially various parts of Mahendragarh and surrounding districts, with several local vehicles, including tractor-trailers, trucks, and canters, found involved in the unlawful trade this year. Despite continuous action by the local police and the mining authorities, the illegal inter-state transport of gravel and other materials persists.

According to police officials, around 150 such vehicles have been seized so far since January this year. In the latest incident, five tractor-trailers carrying illegally mined gravel from Rajasthan were seized last night — four from Mahendragarh city and one from the Ateli region of the district.

“As per regulations, vehicles transporting mining materials from Rajasthan to Haryana must carry both an e-Rawaana and an interstate transport permit (ISTP). However, majority of vehicles seized this year lacked both, classifying them under illegal mining and transportation,” said Sub-Inspector Govind, in-charge, police mining team, Narnaul.

He said, “Vehicles are required to pay Rs 80 per tonne to obtain the ISTP. Once seized, cases are handed over to the local mining authorities for further legal action.”

Sources revealed that the motive behind such illegal transportation is tax evasion, with vehicles from both Haryana and Rajasthan involved in the act. The material is typically sold to local buyers on demand.

Rajesh Kumar, Mining Officer, told ‘The Tribune’ that fines are imposed on vehicle owners, and FIRs are registered against those who fail to pay penalties.

Meanwhile, Mahendragarh SP Pooja Vashisth has issued strict instructions to all SHOs and police post in-charges to take firm action against illegal mining operations. “Acting on these directives, the police are intensifying their enforcement efforts and taking strict legal action against violators,” a police spokesperson said.
