Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Rajesh Nagar on Monday took stock of the wheat procurement in Karnal and Gharaunda grain markets, expressing satisfaction with the lifting and payment systems in mandis.

During his visit, he interacted with the farmers and commission agents and checked moisture contents in the grains.

Speaking to mediapersons, the minister said he had previously visited the grain markets in Ladwa and Indri, where he also engaged with the farmers and commission agents. “I did not receive any complaints during any of my visits. The lifting process is going on smoothly and the farmers are receiving timely payments,” he said, adding that the moisture content in the wheat was found to be within permissible limits.

When asked about any issues in the state, Nagar admitted that minor glitches in lifting had occurred at one or two locations, but those had been promptly addressed. “Contractors have been instructed to speed up the lifting process to avoid any further delays,” he noted.

The minister further said that most of the wheat had already arrived in the mandis, and no complaints about crop damage due to recent rainfall had been reported. Regarding pending payments, he explained that due to a three-day bank holiday, some payments had been delayed, but these would be cleared as soon as banks reopened.

Nagar lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for gifting Haryana two major projects on Monday –laying the foundation stone of a unit of thermal plant in Yamunanagar and inauguration of the airport in Hisar.

On being asked about the non-finalisation of the Leader of Opposition by the Congress, he took a jibe and said it was yet to appoint a Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, which reflected the internal factionalism and lack of unity. “With such a situation, how can they hope to maintain dominance in the state or at the national level?” he said.
