Minister orders registration of FIR against depot holder for irregularities in ration distribution
The Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Rajesh Nagar, has directed officials to get an FIR lodged against a depot holder at Mirzapur village for serious irregularities in ration distribution. The irregularities were found during an investigation by the District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC).
Addressing the monthly meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievance Redressal Committee at the Kurukshetra Mini-Secretariat, Nagar emphasised on zero tolerance for such violations. Out of 17 grievances listed in the agenda, the minister resolved 12 on the spot.
In a major relief to Sharda Rani, a resident of Sirsala village, the minister ordered to either restore her possession of three acres of land or vacate all 15 acres. Sharda Rani finally got justice in a long-pending land dispute.
In another case, Salinder Singh from Amin village raised concerns over the use of a forged affidavit to manipulate an electricity connection. Nagar directed the Superintendent of Police to investigate disappearance of the original affidavit and look into departmental collusion in this connection.
Conducts surprise inspection at FCI godown
After the meeting, Nagar conducted a surprise inspection at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns located on the Amin road in Kurukshetra. The purpose behind the inspection was to assess the condition of rice stocks and the overall management of storage facilities. During inspection, he checked multiple storage units, focusing on moisture content in the rice, maintenance practices and treatment procedures used to preserve the stock. Samples were taken from various rice stacks across godowns. “These samples will be sent to laboratory for testing. Appropriate action will be taken based on the results,” said Nagar. He also held discussions with FCI officials to gather feedback on the stock status, treatment measures to prevent spoilage and overall warehouse conditions. Speaking to the media, Nagar revealed that the FCI had procured around 9 lakh metric tonnes of rice during the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons. Currently, around 7.5 lakh bags of rice were stored in the Kurukshetra godowns, he said. “We had received complaints regarding the condition of these godowns, which prompted today’s surprise inspection,” he said.
