On July 2, Uttar Pradesh native Khemchand, in his complaint, had stated that he worked as a mason and had been living at the Bahadurpura village community centre for the last nine months. He got married to Savitri around 19 years ago and the couple have three sons.
Khemchand had alleged that Rambir had lured Savitri on the pretext of marriage, and took her to Punjab. In Punjab, he kept her forcefully for nearly 14 months. However, she managed to escape.
“Around 12.30 in the night, two people came and stood near my cot. I recognised Rambir and confronted him, but he started beating me, while the other person locked the room in which my sons were sleeping. They forcefully took Savitri to the park at the community centre and left sometime later. When I went there to check on her, I found her unconscious. With the help of some people, I took her to the civil hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival,” Khemchand said.
However, during the investigation, the police found that Khemchand had been lying to save his son. As per the Kurukshetra police, the minor boy was not happy about his mother being in a relationship with another man and, out of anger, killed her. The father, in order to save the boy, cooked up a story and raised allegations on Rambir, who was allegedly in a relationship with the deceased. On July 7, a team of the Thanesar Sadar police station, led by SHO Baljit Singh, arrested Khemchand and apprehended the minor boy. While the minor was sent to an observation home, Khemchand was sent to judicial custody.
The SHO said, “During the investigation, it came to light that the family was misleading the police, and was involved in the murder. Khemchand fabricated a story and levelled allegations against Rambir to save his son.”
