A joint team of child line and police has rescued a minor girl of Yamunanagar who was allegedly sold to a 40-year-old man of Rohtak for marriage.

The 17-year-old girl, a resident of Hamida Colony in Yamunanagar, was allegedly sold for Rs 56,000 by her mother to Vikram of Dhamad village in Rohtak on September 7.

A case has been registered against three persons, including the girl’s mother. As per an FIR registered at the city police station, Yamunanagar, on September 19, the child line, Rohtak, informed the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on September 8 that a minor girl of Yamunanagar was sold and brought to Dhamad village.

Thereafter, a joint team of child line and the police rescued the girl and presented her before the CWC, where she was sent to a shelter home after counseling.

“During counseling, the girl said Vikram of Dhamad village along with one-two persons of his family had come to Yamunanagar on September 7 when Jhasu of Dhamad village gave her Rs 56,000, which she handed over to her mother. Thereafter, she, along with a 12-year-old sister of her friend came to Dhamad village by car,” the FIR read.

She further told the counselors that when she reached Dhamad, she was taken to a temple where Vikram married her.

On the complaint of the CWC chairperson, a zero FIR was registered against Jhasu, Vikram, the girl’s mother and some unidentified persons under sections 370, 366-A of the IPC, Juvenile Justice Act, 9,10,12 of Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006, at the Sadar police station, Rohtak, on September 19.

The zero FIR was transferred to Yamunanagar, where an FIR was registered against the accused at the city police station on September 21.
