The police have arrested two of the three suspects allegedly involved in an incident of gangraping a 16-year-old girl here recently. The victim had been admitted to a hospital after undergoing an abortion recently. Haryana Commission for Women Chairperson Renu Bhatia visited the victim at the hospital on Saturday, assuring her all possible help. The victim’s condition was stable, she added.

Strict action would be taken against all those involved in the incident, she said.

The crime was brought to light after the victim was rescued by a team of the Child Protection Unit (CPU) from a locality here on January 14.

A departmental official said the victim told the team that she was raped by two persons after being abducted from a colony here about four months ago. It is revealed that the victim, who had been searching for her brother, meet one of the suspects, identified as Jaswant, an auto rickshaw driver. He promised to help her in her search.

However, according to the complaint, the suspect took her to a room in the Green Fields area, where he and another suspect, identified as Sultan, raped her and threatened to kill her if she revealed the matter to anyone. The girl was rescued by a team of the CPU after activists associated with an NGO told officials that the girl needed medical help after a quack performed an abortion on her recently.

The victim was reported to have told the magistrate that she had also been raped by a third person, identified as Sikandar, who had been residing in her neighbourhood for the past few months.

While two of the suspects, Jaswant and Sultan, have been arrested, the third suspect remains absconding. The police had registered a case in this regard and a probe had been launched into the matter, said a police official.
