Karnal: Miscreants break open two ATMs, make off with Rs 6.6 lakh

Miscreants broke open two ATMs located near the Civil Lines police station and fled with Rs 6.6 lakh here early Sunday morning.
Gas-cutters used in crime
- The preliminary investigation indicates that the miscreants used gas-cutters to break open two ATMs of Axis Bank situated on Mall Road, on which the residences of senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, are located.
- It is believed that four masked men were involved in the crime.
- The Civil Lines police are examining the CCTV footage to identify the miscreants.
The incident took place around 3 am on Sunday, raising concerns about the security of the ATMs in the area.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the miscreants used gas-cutters to break open the two ATMs of Axis Bank situated on Mall Road, on which the residences of senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, are located.
It is believed that four masked men were involved in the crime.
“The investigation has revealed that there were four suspects, but they are yet to be identified,” said Vishnu Mitar, SHO, Civil Lines police station.
After receiving a call from a bank official, the police rushed to the spot.
The SHO said the bank officials were unaware of incident as a private agency refilled the cash in the ATMs. After calculation, the officials estimated that around Rs 6.6 lakh was stolen, he added.
The Civil Lines police are examining the CCTV footage to identify the miscreants.
“We have registered a case against unidentified persons. We are closely working to nab the culprits and recover the stolen money. We are also examining the CCTV footage of nearby buildings,” the SHO added.
