Five to six unidentified miscreants uprooted an ATM by holding the guard hostage at gunpoint. However, the exact amount of cash in the ATM was yet to be ascertained.

Preliminary information revealed that cash amounting to Rs 15-Rs 17 lakh was lying in the ATM. Bank officials are assessing the loss and will provide the details on Monday.

The police have registered a case against unidentified miscreants under Section 395 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act, said Ramphal, SHO, Nissing. He said efforts were being made to nab the accused with the help of the CCTV footage.

As per the information, the incident took place around 3 am on Sunday. Five to six miscreants, with their faces covered with clothes, entered in the ATM room and held the guard, Om Parkash of Sirsal, hostage at gunpoint.

They uprooted the ATM and took it along with them. They also took the guard with them and threw him on a road at some distance before escaping. —TNS
