The Congress MLA from Ellenabad, Bharat Singh Beniwal, has criticised the Chautala family, accusing them and their parties INLD and JJP of being silent partners of the BJP. Speaking to the media after attending the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Sirsa on Wednesday, Beniwal said the Chautala family had always practiced “hidden alliance politics” with the BJP.

Beniwal said, “From the time of Chaudhary Devi Lal to Om Prakash Chautala and now his sons Abhay and Ajay and grandson Dushyant, every generation of the Chautala family, has supported the BJP in some way. Their political history clearly shows a pattern of aligning with the BJP, either openly or secretly.”

He accused Abhay Singh Chautala of helping the BJP even when he was the Leader of the Opposition. “In 2019, Abhay Chautala was ready to join the Khattar government. He had even packed his bags for Delhi, but before he could act, Dushyant Chautala made the alliance with the BJP official,” Beniwal said.

He further claimed that Abhay Chautala had consistently voted for the BJP candidates in all major elections since 2019, including Rajya Sabha and the Vice-President election. Beniwal also recalled how, during the farmers’ protest, when the Congress announced a no confidence motion against the BJP government, Abhay Chautala resigned from the Assembly to avoid voting against the BJP.

Talking about the recent 2024 Assembly elections, Beniwal alleged that the INLD aligned with Gopal Kanda’s party in Sirsa, which had already declared support for the BJP. “As part of this arrangement, the BJP withdrew its candidate from Sirsa, and put up weak candidates in Dabwali, Ellenabad and Rania to help the INLD win,” he claimed.

He also alleged that the INLD deliberately fielded candidates in seats where the Congress was strong, with the sole intention of cutting Congress votes and benefiting the BJP.

“This is all part of a larger BJP-Chautala family conspiracy,” Beniwal said. “Even today, their main target is not the BJP or its Chief Minister but the Congress and former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda. They know Hooda is the biggest challenge for them, and that’s why all three parties the INLD, the JJP, and the BJP come together to take on him.”

Bharat Singh Beniwal defeated senior INLD leader Abhay Chautala in the 2024 Assembly elections from Ellenabad, a seat long considered an INLD stronghold. Beniwal won by a margin of 15,000 votes. Abhay Chautala had held the seat since 2010 and was elected the MLA four times in a row.
