Neeraj Sharma, Congress MLA from Faridabad NIT, has demanded a probe by the Vigilance Department into a project worth several lakhs regarding civic infrastructure allotted by the civic body recently.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Sharma said he has raised the issue of releasing two work orders for the same project in Rajiv Colony with the office of the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF).

He noted that while the first work order of Rs 61.49 lakh for laying a PVC water supply pipeline and repairing streets in the eastern pocket of Rajiv Colony was issued in 2023, a second work order worth Rs 49.23 lakh for the same work in the same locality was issued in June this year. Claiming that the first work order is still ongoing, he questioned how a second work order for the same project was released to the contractor or agency assigned the first work order.

Suspecting a scam, Sharma stated that although the Commissioner, MCF, has ordered an internal inquiry and halted the bills for the contract, a Vigilance probe is necessary to uncover the alleged racket. It is reported that the Additional Commissioner, MCF, Swapnil Ravindra Patil, has been asked to submit a fact-finding report within 15 days.
