Congress MLA from NIT (Faridabad) Neeraj Sharma met Union Minister for Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday and urged him to expedite the proposed project of setting up a National Institute of Unani Medicines along with a 120-bed hospital in his constituency.
Chief Minister ML Khattar had also taken up the issue with the Ayush Ministry in the past. The project is to be fully financed by the Centre.
The Haryana Government had transferred an eight-acre land of panchayat in Khedi-Gujran village in the NIT constituency, more than four years back, to set up the institute and an attached hospital.
The institute would be the country’s first research institute for Unani medicines and non-communicable diseases.
“During the meeting, I informed the Union Minister about the importance of the project,” Sharma said.
He said the minister had assured to look into the matter.
The NIT constituency and its surrounding areas are highly populated with predominantly working-class people living here.
