The Member of Parliament from Sirsa, Kumari Selja, has written to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, requesting the extension of the Kalindi Express, currently running from Prayagraj to Bhiwani, to Sirsa. This move aims at providing thousands of devotees and saints in the region with direct access to the holy city of Prayagraj for the upcoming Mahakumbh festival.

Selja has also addressed Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, urging him to assign a specific department for the maintenance and renovation of parks and green belts in Sirsa.

In her letter to the Railway Minister, Kumari Selja highlighted the demand from residents of the Sirsa Lok Sabha constituency to extend certain trains to Sirsa. She proposed extending train numbers 14117 and 14118 (Kalindi Express), which currently run between Prayagraj and Bhiwani, to Sirsa. The extension would allow easier access for thousands of people from Sirsa to participate in the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, scheduled to begin on January 13, and run until February 26, coinciding with Mahashivratri.

Selja pointed out that the Mahakumbh drew thousands of devotees from across India, including from Sirsa, and that the extension of the Kalindi Express would make it more convenient for people from the region to travel to Prayagraj for the religious event. She urged the Railway Minister to expedite the process of extending the train services to Sirsa, emphasising the importance of the Mahakumbh in the spiritual lives of the people.

Additionally, Selja recommended the introduction of a new intercity train service from New Delhi to Sirsa, passing through Meham, Rohtak, Hansi, and Hisar. She also suggested that train numbers 14891/14892, currently operating between Jodhpur and Hisar, be extended to Sirsa.

Selja urges CM for maintenance of Sirsa parks, green belts

In a separate letter to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Kumari Selja raised concerns about the maintenance of parks and green belts in Sirsa. She explained that significant funds was spent on the development of Town Park, Bhadra Park, and the green belt, but both the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) and the Sirsa Municipal Council had failed to take responsibility for their upkeep. This neglect had led to the deterioration of these public spaces, which were increasingly becoming unusable and unsafe for residents.

Selja highlighted that the Town Park’s musical fountains, which were built at a cost of lakhs of rupees, had become non-functional due to poor maintenance. Similar issues plagued Bhadra Park, and the green belt had become a hotspot for drug addicts. She urged the Chief Minister to assign a specific department for the parks’ maintenance and ensure that funds were allocated for their renovation. This, she believed, would not only improve the environment but also provide a safe and enjoyable space for the residents to engage in outdoor activities.
