Member of Parliament from Sirsa, Kumari Selja, has criticised the Haryana Government for increasing electricity prices. She stated that since coming to power, the BJP government had failed to establish any new power units. Every summer, people suffered from extreme heat due to electricity shortages, yet instead of providing relief, the government had raised the electricity prices.

She pointed out that while in Delhi, the government promised 300 units of free electricity, in Haryana, the opposite was happening, the rates were increasing, adding financial stress for common people. She demanded that the government roll back the price hike and eliminate the fuel surcharge adjustment (FSA) for the benefit of the public.

According to her statement, the government delivered a shocker to citizens by increasing the electricity rates by 20 to 40 paise per unit from Tuesday midnight. The agriculture sector's electricity rate has risen from Rs 6.48 per unit to Rs 7.35. Industries are also affected, with an increase of 30 to 35 paise per unit for high-tension supply and 10 to 15 paise for small factories. Bulk supply rates have gone up by 40 paise, impacting 81 lakh consumers across the state.

Kumari Selja accused the government of burdening people through various charges, including the FSA and new meter fees. The FSA alone was raised by 47 paise per unit recently. She questioned why the BJP, which promised free electricity in Delhi elections, was doing the opposite in Haryana.

She further criticised the government, saying it had done nothing significant in its third term. Law and order had deteriorated, unemployment and inflation were at their peak, and instead of creating jobs, the government was terminating employees under the HKRN scheme.

She condemned the rising costs that were making life harder for the poor and demanded that the government should immediately withdraw the increased electricity rates to ease the burden on the people.
