MP Surjewala accuses state govt of shielding drug mafia

Congress general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala launched a sharp attack on the Haryana Government, alleging that the state has been pushed into a “drug pandemic” and accusing the ruling BJP of shielding drug mafia as they expand their grip from rural areas to urban centres.

Surjewala, who met people at Kisan Bhawan on Sunday to hear public grievances, told the media that drug cartels were flourishing under the present government. “From villages to cities, and from schools to bus stands, drug mafias are ruling the streets while the government is doing nothing,” he said.

He expressed concern that even the village associated with Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh had not been spared. “From medical stores, dangerous substances, banned drugs and injections are being sold openly. The Drug Control Department itself appears to be under the influence of these mafias,” he added. He claimed that youths continued to die due to overdoses while the government “remains silent”.

Surjewala further alleged that the drug network had begun using women as peddlers. “Drugs are being sold openly in lanes, neighbourhoods, road crossings, bus stands and outside schools. Youth facing unemployment and migration pressure are falling deeper into addiction. The drug de-addiction campaign is only on paper; the government and the CM are not taking any action on the ground,” he said.
