Ambala, January 10
A multi-level parking, shopping complex and a state-of-the-art auditorium will come up on 2.5 acres of land where the 125-year-old Municipal Corporation office was located in Ambala City.
At the time of announcement, a budget of Rs 20 crore was also sanctioned for the project but after getting the approval recently, the Municipal Corporation has prepared a revised estimate of Rs 42 crore, which has been sent for final approval to the state government.
According to the project report, the multi-level parking, shopping complex and auditorium will come up on the piece of land where the MC office was located at Jagadhari Gate here for the past over 125 years. To provide land for the project, the MC office will be shifted to the Working Women Hostel complex on the old Delhi highway, about 1 km from the present site.
Presently, the twin towns of Ambala were facing parking pangs and traffic hazards in the absence of a dedicated parking lot or adequate availability of space. Vehicles can often be seen parked haphazardly on roadsides and in vacant spaces, obstructing the free flow of traffic as well as pedestrian movement.
