31 aspirants have submitted papers for ward councillor’s posts

Kalanwali town is buzzing with excitement as municipal elections are being held after a long gap of nine years. The nomination process, which began on June 10, witnessed a big turnout of candidates on the fifth day. On Saturday alone, five candidates filed nominations for the post of Municipal Committee (MC) chairman and 31 aspirants’ submitted papers for ward councillor’s posts.

Subhash Goyal, Sunil Ahlawat and Jasdeep Goyal filed nomination papers today at the Sub-Divisional Office. Master Phool Chand Luhani and Mukesh Rajoria also submitted their nominations today. This is the first time that direct election is being held for the chairman’s post. The nominations were submitted to Returning Officer-cum- Sirsa SDM Rajendra Kumar.

For 16 wards of the MC, 31 candidates submitted their nomination papers. Some prominent names of candidates include national shooter Manjeet Kaur (Ward No. 5), Jyoti Rani and Swarna Devi (Ward No. 7), Mahesh Garg (Ward No. 10) and Nitin Garg (Ward No. 13). In Ward No. 2, former MC chairman Sonu Nagar could not file her nomination due to educational qualification issues.

In Ward No. 12, most candidates reached a mutual consensus over candidature of Amandeep Kaur who would likely file her nomination papers on June 16. The last date to file nomination papers is June 16. Scrutiny of forms will be held on June 17. Candidates can withdraw their nominations on June 18. Election symbols will be allotted on same day. Voting is scheduled for June 29 from 8 am to 6 pm, with counting of votes on July 2.
