Under this programme, people will be made aware about how to improve cleanliness in the twin cities Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. Besides, work will be done to make the civic body offices and wards of the MCYJ adopt zero waste policy. All chowks and main roads of the twin cities will be beautified.

This information was given by MCYJ Commissioner Mahaveer Prasad. He held a meeting with officials of various departments and office-bearers of social organisations in Yamunanagar regarding the preparations for the Sewa Pakhwada drive.

“I asked officials to make all preparations to make ‘Swachhata hi Sewa Pakhwada’ a successful campaign. Under this drive, work will be done to make wards and offices zero waste. The wards and offices, which will become zero waste, will be honoured at the state level function,” said Prasad.

He said social organisations should make people aware of the cleanliness by running awareness campaigns in the twin cities. He said Safai Mitras (sanitation workers) would have an important contribution in this drive.

“I have asked officials of the MCYJ to organise camps to check the health of sanitation workers of all the three zones,” said Prasad.

He instructed officials of the Education Department to organise slogan, painting and other competitions on cleanliness in schools. He said students, who would make best slogan or painting, would be honoured. Students should be taken on a tour of solid waste management plant in Kail village to make them aware about cleanliness, he said. He gave instructions for installing dustbins in all schools.

“Officials should work towards making Ramlila and Navratri festivals zero waste. For this, awareness should be created to not use single-use plastic at venues of these festivals,” he said. Under this drive, a big programme on cleanliness would be organised here on September 25.

“Under this programme, a special Shramdan drive will be run. MLA, Mayor, all municipal councillors, social organisations, students, officials and employees of the MCYJ will participate in this drive,” the Commissioner said.
