A team of the Meham Municipal Committee which had gone to remove encroachments on the municipal land was attacked by residents on Tuesday.
The residents also blocked the Meham-Gohana road in protest against the demolition of their buildings.
Following that, the police and administrative officials reached the spot and dispersed the protesters.
Municipal Committee secretary Naveen Nandal said some persons had encroached on nearly 4 acres of municipal land by constructing concrete buildings.
"They had not removed the encroachments despite being served notices. Hence, a team of officials, accompanied by police personnel, went to remove the encroachments on Tuesday. The owners of the buildings pelted stones on the team members with and blocked the road," said Nandal, adding that the duty magistrate had lodged a complaint with the police.
The police has registered a case and rounded up some persons in this connection.
The encroachers have been given two days' time to remove the encroachments, the official said, adding that the anti-encroachment drive would continue.
