Murder suspect arrested in Gurugram

A wanted criminal, Dhirendra, was arrested last night in connection with a 2022 murder case, where the victim was shot over a land dispute. Dhirendra, who had a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head, was captured by the Sohna crime unit on Sohna-Ballabgarh Road.

The police said in October 23, 2022, a woman filed a complaint reporting her brother, Bijendra, had been shot while working in the fields. Bijendra was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where he succumbed to his injuries.

An FIR was registered and police investigations revealed the murder was the result of a land dispute between the victim, Bijendra and Dhirendra. Dhirendra, along with his brother Jitendra and friend Ashok, allegedly shot Bijendra.

While Jitendra and Ashok were arrested earlier, Dhirendra managed to evade capture for over a year. As the prime suspect in the murder, police had offered a reward of Rs 20,000 for information leading to his arrest.

A police spokesperson said Dhirendra was also facing charges for creating a public nuisance in a separate incident. He said Dhirendra is currently in custody, adding that authorities are questioning him about his involvement in the crime. — OC
