Murthal: Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University for Science and Technology gets approval to establish computer centre

Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University for Science and Technology (DCRUST), Murthal, would soon get a state-of-the-art computer centre worth Rs 5 crore. The state government has given administrative approval to establish the project on the university premises.

Vice-Chancellor SP Singh said the centre would be established on the second floor of the Saraswati Library Complex. He said the proposed computer centre is envisioned as a centralised hub of computing resources, technical support services, and collaborative workspaces designed to meet the evolving needs OF students, faculty, and staff.

“The primary aim of the proposed computer centre is to provide the university community with access to cutting-edge computing facilities and support services, which empower them to excel in their academic and research endeavours,” the VC added.

Whether it’s conducting complex simulations, analysing big data sets, developing software applications, or engaging in collaborative projects, the computer centre will serve as a catalyst for innovation and learning across various disciplines, he added.

There would be a provision of around 350 computers in the computer centre and all the computers would be connected to the internet. A separate work station would be developed for each student. Apart from this, there would be special arrangements for teachers and technical staff in the centre, he said.

Though all students would be able to use the computer centre, for the students doing research, there would be special arrangements of computers with state-of-the-art software, the VC added.

Moreover, the computer centre will foster a culture of collaboration and interdisciplinary engagement, facilitating knowledge sharing, teamwork, and innovation among students, faculty, and staff, the VC said.

He said that in addition to supporting academic and research activities, the computer centre will also play a crucial role in enhancing the operational efficiency of administrative processes at DCRUST.
