Narcotics Control Bureau launches anti-drug drives at hotspots in Hisar

An anti-drug awareness drive was launched on Monday by the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) at Piranwali village in Hisar district under the chairmanship of village Sarpanch Gurwinder Singh.

An HSPCB spokesperson said similar programmes were organised at Ambedkar Colony and Geeta Colony (in Hisar town) simultaneously.

HSNCB Awareness Programme and Rehabilitation In-charge-cum-Sub Inspector Ashok Kumar Verma said these areas had been identified as drug hotspots.

He said drug addiction harmed not only the body but also the brain, while drug peddling destroyed families.

Sharing data, Verma said the bureau registered 3,823 cases in 2023, and imprisoned 5,930 criminals in this regard.

In 2024, 3,330 cases had been registered, and 5,328 smugglers had been put in jail, he added, stating that, this year, from January to June alone, 1,858 cases had been filed, with 3,051 offenders arrested, and property worth Rs 87 lakh seized.

Verma urged citizens to use the 1933 helpline, the NCB MANAS portal, or mobile phone number 9050891508 to share confidential information against drug use and trade.

In all three programmes, a ‘Namak Lota’ campaign was carried out, where villagers placed salt in a pot and took an oath to stay away from intoxicants and ensure that others the same.

Awareness drives in villages are being conducted under the leadership of HSNCB Superintendent of Police Mohit Handa and Superintendent of Police Pankhuri Kumar.
