Narcotic substances seized in 387 cases by the Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, and Ambala police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were burnt at a paper mill in Pehowa on Wednesday.
The market value of the drugs burnt was over Rs 55.40 crore. Besides this, about 68 kg of opium, worth around Rs 3.40 crore, recovered in 72 cases will be sent to Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh.
The department has burnt various narcotics, including over 30 quintal poppy husk, over 1 quintal ganja, over 5 kg heroin, around 56 gm sulfa, 728 gm smack, and over 8 kg charas. Besides, 13 intoxicating injections, 15,126 capsules, 27,147 tablets and 26 bottles of syrup were also destroyed.
IG Ambala Range Sibash Kabiraj, Kurukshetra SP Varun Singla, Yamunanagar SP, Rajiv Deswal and several officials were present during this process.
\ Kabiraj said, “The narcotics substances seized in three districts -- Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar and Ambala-- of Ambala Division were burnt on Wednesday. The Police Department has been taking strict action against the people involved in drug peddling. We also appeal to the people to share the information regarding such people and appropriate action will be taken."
