Senior Congress leader and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja today criticised the BJP for trying to gain political mileage from Operation Sindoor, stating that the issue of national security should remain above politics.

Addressing a press conference here, Selja, who is national general secretary of the Congress, stated that the entire nation, including the Opposition, stood united with the government on the operation, and expressed pride in the bravery of the Army. “The bravery of our armed forces makes the nation proud. However, BJP leaders and ministers are making inappropriate statements. Mere apologies won't suffice—strict action must be taken,” she said, referring to the statement of BJP MP Ram Chander Jangra regarding the women at the centre of the Pahalgam attack.

On internal party matters, Selja noted that despite the absence of a structured organisation in Haryana for over a decade, Congress workers had continued to work tirelessly. She highlighted that the lack of organisation cost the party dearly in the last Assembly elections. On her silence during the Assembly polls, she remarked that her stance was in the interest of the party as she did not want to harm its prospects.

Regarding the Punjab polls, Selja said the Congress remained strong in the state, while the AAP government had failed to deliver on its promises and was marred by corruption. “The people are disillusioned with the AAP, the SAD stands exposed, and the BJP has no real base in Punjab. The Congress is poised for a comeback,” she claimed.

On the long-standing SYL canal dispute, she said both the NDA at the Centre and the previous SAD government in Punjab failed to resolve the issue, and the current Haryana government had also not protected state interests.
