National nutrition month launched in Sirsa

The Eighth National Nutrition Month was launched on Wednesday at the local Panchayat Bhawan in Sirsa under the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Nari’ (Healthy Woman, Empowered Woman) campaign by the Women and Child Development Department.

Dr Subhash Chandra, CEO of the Zila Parishad, attended the event as chief guest. He praised the department’s efforts to empower women and urged pregnant women to prioritise their health through proper nutrition. He also urged the gathering to include millet and other nutritious foods in daily diets and emphasised the need for raising awareness among children about these foods.

The Deputy Director and District Programme Officer, Dr Darshna Singh said September is celebrated as National Nutrition Month. She said such programmes help increase awareness, contributing to the building of a healthier society. She added similar activities would continue at block and village levels throughout the month. As part of the event, a plantation drive was conducted under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in Mother’s Name).

Several other activities were organised, including a baby shower ceremony for pregnant women and a healthy recipe competition. Cultural performances featured artistes Inaya Swami, Vani, Sneha and Neha.

Anganwadi workers dressed as “Nutrition Fairies,” showcasing jewellery made from fruits and vegetables in a special fashion show.

Manju provided information about the services offered by the One Stop Center. Protection Officer Anjana Dudi spoke about sponsorship schemes, adoption, and child protection. Supervisor Shweta gave a detailed briefing on the nutrition campaign, while Supervisor Supendra recited a poem related to the initiative.
