NCC and NSS volunteers to conduct cleanliness drive at Mimarpur ghat on Basant Panchami
Volunteers from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Social Service (NSS) of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST), Murthal, are set to carry out a cleanliness drive at the Mimarpur ghat of Yamuna on the occasion of Basant Panchami. The volunteers will not only focus on cleaning the area but will also raise awareness about the importance of maintaining cleanliness.
Professor Shree Prakash Singh, Vice Chancellor of DCRUST, visited the ghat on Wednesday to assess the preparations. During his visit, he emphasised the significance of environmental conservation, citing India’s cultural and historical reverence for nature. He remarked that in the Vedic period, society had a profound awareness of the environment, and pollution was strongly discouraged. He further highlighted that in ancient times, the land was considered sacred. He further stated that trees like Banyan, Peepal and Amla were worshipped for their life-sustaining qualities, particularly their role in providing oxygen.
Professor Singh underscored the critical importance of cleanliness for a healthy and fulfilling life. He pointed out that personal hygiene is vital in preventing diseases and ensuring well-being. A clean environment, whether at home or in public spaces, plays a crucial role in reducing health risks and fostering a sense of overall well-being. Cleanliness, he added, is not limited to physical health but also significantly impacts mental health.
The Vice Chancellor further emphasised that cleanliness is a simple yet powerful habit with a far-reaching impact on both personal and collective well-being. He stressed that cleanliness is integral in reducing disease transmission and fostering a supportive and optimistic mind-set.
Also present at the event was Registrar Dr Ajay Garg, who supported the Vice Chancellor's message, reinforcing the importance of cleanliness in creating a healthy, sustainable environment for all.
