NCSC seeks report from varsity on harassment of SC teacher
Commission gives seven days to reply; teacher alleges mental harassment during maternity leave
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has asked the Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa, to submit a report within seven days on allegations of harassment made by a pregnant Scheduled Caste teacher.
In its latest communication dated September 29, the Commission reminded the university of its earlier letter sent on September 10, for which no reply had been received. It directed the university to send the current status report without delay.
The complainant, a part-time faculty member in the Law Department, alleged that she was subjected to mental harassment by the department head during her maternity leave. According to her complaint, she applied for leave on April 23 and submitted attendance details via email, yet was repeatedly pressured to bring the physical attendance register to campus. Her April salary was withheld, and on May 9 she was placed on unpaid maternity leave.
She further claimed that students were sent to her residence to collect the register and that she was later humiliated in the office.
The Haryana SC Commission has also sought a report from the local police regarding the matter.
Responding to the development, CDLU Vice-Chancellor Prof Vijay Kumar said, “The university had already replied to the earlier notice and will respond to the new one within the stipulated time.”
