Suman Saini, vice-president of the Haryana State Council for Child Welfare (HSCCW), emphasised the importance of preserving ancient culture, civilisation and education for the development of the country. She was speaking at a state-level event organised by the council to celebrate lohri and makar sankranti festivals in Kurukshetra.

Addressing the gathering, Suman Saini, wife of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, said, “The HSCCW is playing a significant role in passing on the culture and values of our country to the young generation. That’s why the council celebrates festivals like lohri and makar sankranti with the youth.”

Congratulating the people of Haryana on the occasion, she said, “Lohri is not just a festival but a part of our cultural and traditional heritage. It symbolises the unity, integrity and diversity of our country. Lohri represents the change in nature, the infusion of new energy, the arrival of new crops and the hard work, unity and prosperity of farmers.”

Saini added that lohri serves as a reminder to connect with nature and the environment. “In today’s world, where the need for climate change awareness and environmental protection is greater than ever, we should understand and embrace the core message of lohri,” she said.

Highlighting the importance of heritage, Saini said, “This tradition inspires us to stay connected to our roots and take our culture forward. Everyone must work to preserve festivals and heritage. Such programmes instil self-confidence and discipline in the young generation. The message of lohri is to embrace new energy, new beginnings and a better future.”
