Taking stern note of delays and lapses in police action, Kaithal Deputy Commissioner Preeti has directed officials to register FIRs in three separate cases, including fraud in sending a girl abroad, an assault incident and misappropriation of wages by a finance company.
She issued the directions while chairing the District Grievance Redressal Committee meeting at the Mini Secretariat today. Out of 15 complaints presented, 10 were resolved on the spot, while the rest were kept pending for further action.
The DC pulled up officials for inaction in an assault case despite availability of CCTV footage. She instructed the DSP to register an FIR immediately and also ordered action against the Investigating Officer (IO) concerned for failing to act in time.
In the first case, Manjit Singh of Siwan Gate alleged he was cheated of Rs 9-10 lakh by two persons running a firm in Chandigarh who failed to send his daughter abroad despite taking money. Although directions had been issued earlier, no FIR had been filed. The DC directed the DSP to lodge the FIR without further delay and submit a status report.
In another case, Satish Kumar of Janakpuri Colony complained he was assaulted by four youths after objecting to their street drinking. Despite CCTV footage clearly showing the incident, no FIR had been registered. The DC ordered police to act immediately and also warned of strict action against the negligent IO.
Similarly, in a complaint filed by Kusum of Kasan village, it was found that Rs 5,600 had been deducted from her MGNREGA wages by a finance company. The DC instructed the police to register an FIR against the company and ensure the deducted amount was refunded.
Besides these cases, the committee took up several civic and pension-related grievances, including issues of drainage, sewage, electricity connections, pension approvals, and bank account openings. Many were resolved on the spot, while others were referred to concerned departments.
Emphasizing accountability, DC Preeti said, “Lapses in timely action by officials will not be tolerated. Departments must ensure swift redressal of citizens’ complaints.”
