Building on the success of the #NashaMuktJeevan Bucket Challenge, which engaged over 30 influencers and reached more than 30 lakh people, the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) has now launched the #BreakTheCycle Bucket Challenge. This new initiative aims to encourage individuals struggling with addiction to take the first step toward recovery.

As part of the challenge, over the next two weeks, addicts will symbolically discard a bucket of muddy water, representing their decision to break free from addiction and commit to a drug-free life.

“The #NashaMuktJeevan Bucket Challenge evolved into a powerful social movement, particularly encouraging young people to speak out against drug abuse. It’s simple yet profound concept — throwing away a bucket of muddy water, symbolising the rejection of drugs — resonated with millions and sparked meaningful discussions on addiction and recovery on social media,” said a police spokesperson.

The campaign gained widespread support from public figures, including actors Rajkumar Rao and Yashpal Sharma, boxer Vijender Singh, singer Masoom Sharma, rapper duo MD&KD, Dangal Girl Babita Phogat and Arjuna Awardee wrestler Geetika Jakhar.

Among those deeply impacted by the initiative was Rajesh (name changed), a 27-year-old from Rohtak who had battled drug addiction for years. Inspired by the campaign, he took the pledge and sought help.

“It made me feel that I am not alone in this fight. If so many people believe in a drug-free life, then so can I” he shared.

Rehabilitation centres across Haryana have reported an increase in inquiries from individuals seeking assistance. Experts believe that such campaigns not only raise awareness but also help break the stigma surrounding addiction.

Speaking on the next phase of the campaign, DGP and Head of HSNCB, OP Singh, emphasised the importance of both awareness and action.

“Addiction is a vicious cycle, but breaking free is possible with the right support and determination. This initiative is not just about awareness — it’s about action,” he stated.

“The #BreakTheCycle Bucket Challenge is not just asking addicts to quit drugs — it is providing them with a platform to take the first step toward a new life. By publicly committing to stay drug-free and encouraging others to do the same, they gain both personal strength and social support,” he added.

With the campaign now in motion, Haryana hopes to take another significant step in its fight against drug abuse, empowering more individuals to reclaim their lives.
