New excise policy encourages liquor consumption: Hooda

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has lambasted the BJP-JJP government on the excise policy while alleging that the new policy would push the youth of the state into liquor consumption and addiction.

Addressing a public meeting at Petwar village of Narnaund Assembly constituency in the district on Sunday, Hooda demanded immediate withdrawal of the new policy.

“The Congress government framed policies which gave impetus to the sports culture in Haryana. But the new policy is a recipe for disaster. We have already seen what has happened in Punjab and this policy could push Haryana in the same direction,” he said.

Hooda also criticised the government for taking back the ownership rights from the Brahmin community on the land donated to them.

Former Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda said the people had voted for change but the JJP has disregarded the mood of the people and deceived them to form a government in alliance with the BJP. Terming it as an unholy and unprincipled alliance, Deepender said that the BJP-JJP government has pushed Haryana into chaos.

Chandigarh: Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee chief and Rajya Sabha MP Kumari Selja on Sunday slammed the BJP-JJP alliance government of the state for the new excise policy and the decision to take away the land of ‘Dhauli’ given to Brahmin families. She said that those who used to talk of closing liquor vends in the state have made arrangements for opening liquor shops in every house today.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Selja said that eliminating 15 per cent quota in liquor vend contracts to Dalits exposes the anti-Dalit face of this government.

She said that these decisions would be strongly opposed by the Congress. —TNS
