Newly laid Karnal road peels off within hours
Karnal, December 12
The newly laid road in Ward 13 has started peeling off within hours of getting laid. Concerned over the use of substandard material in road laying, Mayor Renu Bala Gupta today inspected the road.
She was furious over the quality of the road. She collected samples of the top layer and directed officials to have these checked at the laboratory. She hinted at an inquiry from Vigilance if the samples were found to substandard.
As per information, the municipal corporation (MC) had allotted a tender for laying a 2-km stretch for Rs 27 lakh. The stretch was laid on Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, residents observed that the road was peeling off. They sounded MC officials about the condition of the road.
“I found that the road was peeling off. It was laid at night. I am surprised that the gravel is coming off. The stretch has become slippery, causing inconvenience to commuters. I have collected samples and sent it for testing,” said Gupta.
She stated that a Vigilance inquiry would be initiated if the samples failed the test. Ish Gulati, ward 13 councillor, said samples of all roads should be taken to ensure good quality roads. — TNS
