The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has carried out repair work on the damaged slopes of flyovers along NH-44 in Karnal, following incidents of soil erosion caused by recent heavy rainfall. The swift action has brought much-needed relief to residents and daily commuters, restoring structural safety and preventing potential accidents.
The issue came to light after ‘The Tribune’ reported soil erosion and cracks on the slopes of several flyovers. The report raised serious concerns about the commuter safety, highlighting that concrete slabs had cracked or collapsed at multiple points. One of the most alarming sites was near the Namastey Chowk flyover, where the soil supporting the flyover edges had washed away, leaving gaps. Taking cognizance of the situation, senior NHAI officials immediately directed the contractor to conduct a thorough inspection of the affected stretches of NH-44. Based on the findings, prompt repair work was initiated on Wednesday, particularly around vulnerable flyover slopes, to restore structural integrity and ensure public safety.
The quick response from NHAI has been appreciated by the public. The commuters and residents have welcomed the move, expressing relief that the hazardous conditions were addressed before any serious incident occurred.
