Night stay arrangements made at eight shelters in Kurukshetra
In city, arrangements have been made near Sannihit Sarovar, Brahma Sarovar, at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash District Civil Hospital, and beneath the Mohan Nagar flyover
Following cold weather conditions, the district administration has made arrangements for stay at eight night shelters in Kurukshetra for the homeless people.
In the city, arrangements have been made near Sannihit Sarovar, Brahma Sarovar, at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) District Civil Hospital, and beneath the Mohan Nagar flyover, near the railway station.
An official said, “The arrangements have been made for 80 people at the night shelter near railway station, 15 at the LNJP District Civil Hospital, and for 10 people each at the shelters near Sannihit Sarovar, near Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman Temple, and Brahma Sarovar. While the night shelter at Brahma Sarovar is being managed by a religious organisation, the remaining three night stay facilities are being operated by the Thanesar Municipal Council.”
Besides, four shelters in the city, one each is functioning in Ladwa, Shahabad, Ismailabad and Pehowa blocks.
Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vishram Kumar Meena said, “The winter season has begun. Many people do not have houses or homes to stay, or sometimes people are forced to stay outside due to unforeseen circumstances. Shelters have been arranged for such people to stay during the night. These shelters provide beds, mattresses, blankets, drinking water, toilets, cleanliness, and lighting facilities to the people.”
The DC said anyone can stay overnight in these shelters free of charge by showing his/her ID proof. “Instructions have also been issued to officials of the Municipal Council and Municipal Committees to ensure proper maintenance of the night shelters across district,” the DC said.
“Night shelters are free for everyone. No one has to pay any money. If anyone demands money, he/she should raise complaint with the administration and appropriate action will be taken,” the DC said. He informed that an employee had been deployed at each night shelter.
