Nine villages in Sirsa declared drug-free
A major awareness campaign against drug abuse was held at Naiwala village in Sirsa district. Superintendent of Police Vikrant Bhushan honoured the Sarpanches of nine villages for achieving the drug-free status at the primary level.
The villages which were recognised for their efforts in eliminating drugs included Naiwala, Dhani Santa Singh, Dhamora Theri, Fatehpuria, Firozabad, Gindranwali, Mohammadpuria, Theri Shaheedanwali and Theri Ranjitpura. The status of these villages will be reviewed once after one month, assessing their progress.
Addressing the crowd, SP Bhushan urged the youth and public to draw inspiration from these villages and work towards making their own areas drug free. He emphasised the importance of education and sports in shaping a brighter future for India instead of indulging in drugs.
The SP also highlighted the police’s efforts in actively running strong campaigns against drug trafficking while promoting sports activities to engage the youth in constructive activities.
Furthermore, the district police have formed four teams dedicated to visiting villages and organising sports events as part of the awareness drive. As a result, 166 villages in the district, along with 12 wards in Sirsa and Ellenabad, have been declared drug-free.
In a similar initiative, the Dabwali police launched a special campaign to identify individuals suffering from drug addiction in the towns and villages such as Kalanwali, Jagmalwali and Makha Dadu. Under the leadership of Sub Inspector Sugreev, the campaign identified 13 drug affected individuals, who were referred to government hospitals for counselling and given a five day treatment plan. Following treatment, these individuals were handed over to their families. The police also educated villagers about the social, economic and mental damages caused by drugs, appealing for their support in making Dabwali a drug-free area.
