According to family members, Mayank returned home from school and later went for his tuition classes in the evening. After returning, he went to his room on the first floor while his mother was working on the ground floor. When the family members went upstairs later, they found him hanging from the ceiling fan with his school tie.

On receiving information, the Old Industrial Area police reached the spot and took the body into custody. It was later sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Inspector Devender Singh, SHO, Old Industrial Area, said, “The body of the deceased has been handed over to the victim’s kin after post-mortem examination.”

He added that prima facie no concrete reason had surfaced behind the extreme step, though the family members told police that Mayank had appeared tense for the past few days.

“Proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) (earlier Section 174 of the CrPC) have been initiated into the matter and a probe is underway,” the SHO said.
