The state Education Department’s decision of making Parivar Pehchan Patra mandatory for admissions in government schools has become an obstacle in uploading the data of out-of-state students on the management information system (MIS) portal.

Issue only with Class i students

The issue is only with students studying in Class I as the Student Registration Number of out-of-state students, who are studying in higher classes, was generated in previous years. — Sudhir Kalra, DEO, Ambala

Govt should simplify procedure

There has been an issue in uploading the data of local students as well due to a discrepancy. The govt should simplify the procedure so that enrolments can be increased. — Ramakant, President, Haryana state lecturer association, Ambala

The data of every single student needs to be uploaded to the MIS portal of the department.

An official in the Education Department said: “Parivar Pehchan Patra is mandatory for admissions. Since migrant families do not have family IDs, the MIS portal doesn’t accept their applications of admissions. The documents of out-of-state students have been collected manually and to give admissions. It is mandatory to upload the data on the portal, else students may face issues in availing benefits, including allowances for uniforms and stationery.”

The president of the Ambala unit of the Haryana State Lecturer Association, Ramakant, said: “Not only the out-of-state students, but there have been issues in uploading the data of local students as well due to discrepancy in the name and date of birth in documents. The government should simplify the procedure so that enrolments can be increased in government schools.”

Local Congress leader Onkarnath Paruthi said: “A large number children of poor families of other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and some even from Nepal, also study in government schools here. Their families do not have identity cards. The government should abolish the requirement of family ID for admissions in a government school and allow them admissions on the basis of Aadhaar Card.”

They had submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Anil Vij and had also asked his personal staff to take up the matter with the department, Paruthi added.

Ambala District Education Officer (DEO) Sudhir Kalra said: “There has been some issue in uploading the data of out-of-state students on the MIS portal. The issue is only with students studying in Class I as the Student Registration Number of out-of-state students, who are studying in higher classes, was already generated in previous years. These students have been given manual admissions so that no student is deprived of education.”

These students were also entitled to avail all benefits. The matter had been brought to the notice of the higher officials and will be resolved soon, the DEO added.
