Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Rewari, has found no negligence in the case of the death of a six-year-old mentally and physically challenged girl at the Specialised Adoption Agency (SAA) in Astha Kunj shelter house here on Sunday.

Vinod, incharge, Gokul Gate police post, said: “Lung infection has been found to be the cause of death of the girl in the post-mortem.” Sources say the Child Welfare Committee has — during inquiry — found that the SAA had properly taken care of the girl and two maids were on duty on Saturday night for taking care of her. However, a nurse deputed there was not present on that night.

“The statements of the SAA manager, maids on duty on Saturday night and Sunday morning and the doctor who initially gave treatment to the girl were recorded during the inquiry to ascertain the veracity of the incident. As per the doctor, she was in a profound level of mental retardation and needed complete assistance for activities of daily life and personal care,” said sources.

The incident grabbed media attention when the Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (HSCPCR) chairperson Jyoti Bainda visited the SAA on Sunday on getting information about the death of the girl and sought a report from the Child Welfare Committee within two days while suspecting some negligence in the case. The girl was brought to the SAA on December 14 last year after the Railway Police Force (RPF) found her stranded in a passenger train on December 13.

Her body was on Wednesday handed over to the authority after keeping her for 72 hours in the mortuary for identification.
