No. of electric buses to increase in Panipat

Students to get local passes for e-buses

The number of electric buses would be increased and the local bus passes would be issued to school and college students, which would be valid in these buses.

It was decided at the meeting of the Road Safety and Surakshit School Vahan Policy in the Mini-Secretariat. DC Virender Kumar Dahiya presided over the meeting while MLA Pramod Vij, SP Lokender Singh along with other officials were present in the meeting.

Dahiya said a total 50 buses had to come to Panipat of which five buses were already plying on the road now, the rest 45 electric buses would be received up to end of this month.

He said the passes which would be issued to the students would be valid only for local buses only.

The DC directed the roadways drivers not to bring their buses frequently to the old bus stand in the city to get oil filled in their vehicles from there. He further directed that they should get the oil filled once in their buses according to the capacity otherwise they would be challaned.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed the officials that the drain near Khadi Ashram should be cleaned and hoardings should be set up at the entry of the city about the speed limit and the drivers must be informed that the violations of rules were being captured on CCTV cameras and they would be challaned for it.

He also directed the Municipal Corporation authorities to shift the temporary market of Shiv Nagar to the vacant land in Sector 13/17 and to purchase a Crain. The DC further directed the NHAI officials to complete the road widening of NH-44 crossing from the city at the earliest so that the traffic jam issues could be resolved.

Dahiya further directed the officials to get the railings fixed on the canal near Sewah village, repair storm water drain on NH-709, fill potholes on Kabri Road, repair the stretch from Malik Petrol pump to Maharaja Aggarsen Chowk and repair the road from Chandnibagh police station to NH-44.

Dahiya said 5-km road would be developed as a model road in the city. The tender for widening of the NH-44 in the city was already allotted and soon the work would begin. Under this project, the road would be widened from 3.5m to 5.5 m of which two specific lanes would be developed – one for autos, e-rickshaws and another for vehicles, the Deputy Commissioner asserted.

The DC also directed the officials to expedite the installation of speed breakers on the demand of Machroli village panchayat. He also directed the officials of the RTA to conduct a dug test of drivers of school vehicles and roadways and also directed the officials to impound old vehicles and to park them at three places -- Sector 13/17, old sugar mill and under the flyover.

MLA Pramod Vij said the traffic jam issue in the city was a big problem but it would be resolved with the support of the district administration.

SP Lokender Singh in the meeting said the traffic police were directed to reduce traffic jams in the city. The traffic wing personnel were equipped with the advanced technology and also provided jackets with cameras, the SP added.
