Jitender, a private job holder and a daily Metro passenger from Ghuskani village (Rohtak), parked his car on roadside outside the Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Metro Station in Bahadurgarh in the morning to leave for Delhi. When he returned in the evening, his car was nowhere to be seen.
Ashok Kumar of Chuliyana village (Rohtak), too, parked his car outside this Metro station to reach Delhi, where his daughter was to appear for a job interview. He left in high spirits but was left shell-shocked on his return when he realised his car had been stolen.
6 incidents in a month

Jitender and Ashok lodged complaints of car theft at the Sector-6 Police Station in Bahadurgarh, but the police could not find any lead even after a week.
Many such instances have come to the fore. Passengers are forced to park their vehicles on the road as the parking lot of the Metro station remains jam-packed due to inadequate space, considering the heavy influx of passengers.
“Bahadurgarh town has three Metro stations but parking lots of all these stations are always full.
In such a situation, many passengers have to park their vehicles outside on roadsides. The municipal authorities must create adequate parking spaces near the Metro stations,” said Jitender.
He said the installation of CCTV cameras around the stations might be an option but these would not prove useful in providing identity of the vehicle thieves if they came with masked faces. Similarly, the deployment of cops near the stations seems to be not much helpful to check such incidents hence creating the parking lots nearby was the best option in this situation, he added.
A large number of people from various villages of Rohtak and Jhajjar districts use Metros daily to commute to Delhi for jobs or business.
Inspector Mahesh Kumar, SHO, Sector-6 Police Station, Bahadurgarh, said they had deployed police personnel around the metro station to nab vehicle thieves.
“Six vehicles have been stolen from outside the station in the past one month. Efforts are on to identify and nab the thieves. More than 100 vehicles are parked along the road every day and the same number of vehicles are inside the parking lot of the Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Metro Station,” said the SHO.
He said they were also planning to have a meeting with Bahadurgarh Municipal Council officials over the issue.
Sanjay Rohila, Executive Officer, Bahadurgarh MC, could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
