As many as 12 out of 17 zila parishad (ZP) members have brought a no-confidence motion against chairperson Jyoti Sharma. The Deputy Commissioner has fixed February 9 as the date for proving the majority on the no-trust motion.
The chairperson at a press conference said she was against corruption and would prove the majority.
As many as 12 ZP members namely Akash Poria of ward1, Randeep Singh (2), Annu Malik (3), Sandeep Jaglan (4), Rekha Rani (5), Jagbeer (6), Sudesh Rani (7), Rajesh Kumar (10), Mamta Devi (11), Kajal Deshwal (13), Pooja (16) and Jitender Kumar (17) submitted an affidavit in support of the no-trust motion to the Deputy Commissioner.
The Chairperson on Friday at a press conference said she came to know about the no-trust motion on Thursday evening when the letter reached her. She said the DC had fixed February 9 for the meeting on no-trust motion.
She further stated that some opposition party councillors had submitted no-trust motion against her. The councillors who submitted the no-trust motion had to prove their majority, the chairperson added.
“I have worked honestly and carried out equal development works in all wards without any discrimination,” Sharma said.
Councillors Jagbeer Singh, Aakash Poria, Jitender and representative of woman councillors — Mahavir husband of councillor Pooja, Dayaram father-in-law of councillor Mamta Devi, Harender husband of councillor Rekha and Sandeep Bhatra husband of Kajal Deshwal— who brought the no-trust motion against the chairperson also held a press conference at the same venue and alleged corruption charges against her. They alleged that the chairperson was working in self-interest. All councillors were forced by the Chairperson herself to bring in a no-trust motion against her, they said.
Virender Kumar Dahiya, DC, said, a total of 12 members of ZP had submitted no-trust motion against the chairperson along with their affidavits.”
On February 9, the majority will be proved, he said. As per law, nine councillors out of 17 councillors are required to prove the majority while 11 councillors are required to prove the no-trust motion against the chairperson, Deputy Commissioner Dahiya said.
