Yamunanagar, July 6
As many as 50 hospitality establishments, including hotels, restaurants, dhabas, motels, marriage halls, banquet halls and party lawns, have allegedly been found running illegally without obtaining valid permissions from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) and other allied departments, including the Municipal Corporation, Town and Country Planning Department and Fire Department in Yamunanagar district.
Called for personal hearing
Through the show-cause notices, the owners of the hospitality establishments have been asked to come to the office of the HSPCB, Yamunanagar, for personal hearing. Some of the owners have appeared for it. However, some of them are yet to appear for personal hearing and submit their compliance status. — Nirmal Kashyap, Regional Officer, HSPCB, Yamunanagar
These 50 hospitality establishments were identified by the district-level task force, constituted by the government in compliance of directions issued by the NGT regarding control of pollution and enforcement of environment norms for individual establishments.
Cracking a whip on these 50 establishments, the authorities of HSPCB, Yamunanagar, have recently issued show-cause notices for closure under Sections of the Water and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Acts.
According to the information, hospitality establishments have been covered under the consent management of the HSPCB after an order was issued by the government on September 13, 2021 in this connection.
Sources said those hospitality establishments in Yamunangar district were being operated without obtaining consent to operate from the board.
Besides, the owners of those units had reportedly not installed any effluent/sewage treatment plant for the treatment of domestic effluent being generated by the units.
According to the information, based upon the request of personal hearing submitted by the owners or authorised persons of the said hospitality establishments in reference to the show-cause notices, they were asked to appear before the authorities of the HSPCB for personal hearing on July 4, 2022.
During the personal hearing, the owners of the hospitality units raised their issue that they were ready to comply with the rules and regulation of all departments concerned.
However, they said they were not getting trade licence as the tax submission software of the Municipal Corporation was not functioning and without the deposition of tax, the MC was not issuing no-objection certificate, which was mandatory for obtaining consent to operate from the pollution control board and NOC from the Fire Department.
Nirmal Kashyap, Regional Officer, HSPCB, Yamunanagar, said the 50 hospitality units had been issued show-cause notices for closure.
“Through the show-cause notices, the owners of the hospitality establishments have been asked to come to the office of the HSPCB, Yamunanagar, for personal hearing. Some of the owners have appeared for personal hearing. However, some of them are yet to appear for personal hearing and to submit their compliance status,” said Nirmal Kashyap.
He said the issues raised by the owners of the hospitality establishments would be brought into notice of the local administration for resolving those issues at the district level officers meeting to be held on July 12, 2022 under the chairmanship of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Yamunanagar.
